About Our Faculty
Our purpose is to prepare exceptional nurses by creating a dynamic atmosphere where intellectual leaders are prepared to assume advanced roles as esteemed members of the Health Care team in order to improve delivery of health care and scientific knowledge underpinning evidence-based, culturally appropriate nursing practice to the residents of the state, the nation, and the world. Our focus will be on educating quality individual practitioners rather than quantities of students.
Faculty Spotlight

Dr. Linda Musu Edwards, Ph.D., MN, RN
Dr. Edwards serves as Associate Dean and Professor for Undergraduate Programs including the traditional BSN and the RN-BSN online program at Florida A&M University School of Nursing. She has over 25 years serving in various professional healthcare settings and roles, to include clinical nursing, and nursing leadership. She has extensive experience in clinical practice as a Registered Nurse with experience in acute adult health, sub-acute rehab nursing, geropsychiatry nursing, geriatric nursing, and clinical nurse education leadership. Prior to joining FAMU, Dr. Edwards has served in various academic leaderships as Department Chair, Nurse Administrator, and Program Director for undergraduate pre-licensure nursing programs. She has successfully launched a pre-licensure nursing program and program expansion, and developed an LPN-RN Bridge program.
Dr. Edwards obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Nursing Science from the University of Washington @ Bothell and her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing with a Specialization in Health Care Administration from Walden University. Dr. Edwards research interest includes gender-based HIV health disparities and targeted HIV programs promoting caring, thoughtfulness, compassion, and information. She is a member of the America Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the National League of Nursing.

Melissa Damelio, MSN, RN
Melissa Damelio, MSN, RN, is the program director of the FAMU SON online RN to BSN program. She also teaches Foundations of Clinical Practice and champions Dosage Calculations for the Traditional BSN curriculum. She has taught nursing students for most of the last 18 years at all levels of preparation, including LPN, ADN and now BSN. One year ago, she joined the FAMUly. Within her professional practice, she worked in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. Since that time, she has worked with students on many of the medical-surgical floors at both TMH and HCA Florida Capital Hospital.
